Rough/Poor Finish on Workpiece Surface
Problem Description:There are knife marks, chatter marks, streaks or sticky residue on the processed surface.
Possible causes:
- Insufficient cutting speed or incorrect tool rake angle
- Poor coating or tool tip wear leading to drag cutting
- Hard spots on the surface of the material being processed or tool resonance
Solution:
- Use mirror-finished tools, control cutting depth and feed rate (low feed, high speed)
- Install a tool damper to reduce vibration and control the coolant flow
- If the surface roughness is poor, add fine lanes or perform mirror grinding.
